Videos player (name of the video player) can play all the videos but without any audio. Any kind of videos are playable, at least the ones I tried but failed to get the audio out of it. But playing music files on RhythmBox or playing videos online, say youtube is not a problem at all. There the audio is crisp and clear. Should I shift to some other video player or some audio codecs are necessary? Please help.

  • If the problem is with the specific "Videos player" then you should report a bug there. You should try a different video player (vlc is great) and see if it works. If it does, it's a problem with "Videos", if it doesn't it might be the video files themselves. Codecs might be an issue but highly unlikely. I've never heard of "Videos" and I have a hunch that you're talking about Totem. You should edit your question adding more detail information and use a sample video (sample-videos.com)

  • yes you are right. The application is actually named videos (aka totem). but now the problem is now gone after I installed VM player once and uninstalled it. Its a mystry to me. But anyway the problem is now solved.
