I had not asked to know the Ubuntu version suitable for the Company Pressrio laptop from HP purchased in 2007. This machine has been doing well from Ubuntu 10.4 onwards but hangs with Ubuntu 18.04. It works fine in recovery mode. Perhaps I have to wait for Ubuntu 18.04.1

What part of boot is it hanging on? Have you tried adding nomodeset to your boot per this: askubuntu.com/questions/1028359/ubuntu-18-04-boot-issues .... also, when the system hangs can you use ctrl+alt+f3 to get a command line? if so, please post output of lspci and dmesg|tail -n 20
