Wrong battery status in /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status

Battery is fully charged, however upower manually reading value from /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status shows wrong information:
upower -i /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT0

I see this as a problem as my battery capacity has decreased to 86% in 1.5 years. Could this be a reason or is this normal?
It is a common assumption that modern laptops stop using battery on AC (when it's fully charged) and just use power from AC. How isn't my laptop doing this?
