I am trying to install the "rJava" R package on an Ubuntu 16 server.

I have tried a few things such as reinstalling the JDK, running a script to set the home path, and running R CMD javareconf (with -e command also).

Here is the error I am getting at this point:

Java 9,10,11 are infamous for problems with finding additional libs.

I chose to return to java 8 and NOT go with -headless version. This helped me:

sudo apt remove openjdk-10-jre-headless
sudo apt remove openjdk-11-jre-headless
sudo apt remove openjdk-8-jre-headless
sudo apt install openjdk-8-jre
