Most of the issues with adb devices giving an empty list is because:

  1. User have no permission - I have ruled it out by running IntellJ and accessing device from there.

  2. Device not trusted. This I ruled out too by running IntelliJ

  3. The device is not recognised by adb. My device is Google Pixel so this is rather unlikely. Nevertheless I manually added its vendor id 0x18d1 to .android/adb_usb.ini to no effect.

  4. I experimented with shutting down both the PC and the mobile and start fresh.

$ adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached

  • I do not know what IntelliJ is, but have you created a /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules file with the device-code from lsusb command with the phone pluged-in?
