I got this error message. I was able to mount previously but it suddenly wasn't able to.
I tried this
sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdd
but got this message:
Mounting volume... NTFS signature is missing.
FAILED
Attempting to correct errors... NTFS signature is missing.
FAILED
Failed to startup volume: Invalid argument
NTFS signature is missing.
Trying the alternate boot sector
NTFS signature is missing.
Unrecoverable error
Volume is corrupt. You should run chkdsk.

Are you intending mounting the whole drive or a partition? I'd normally expect to mount something like/dev/sdd1
rather than just/dev/sdd
.

before you start messing with it too much, create a disk image usingdd
if you bork the recovery, you can still go back.

Welcome to Ask Ubuntu. Why on Earth would you try to "NTFS fix" a whole drive instead of a partition? Moreover we are talking about a FAT partition... Please clarify what you are trying to do.
