I am running Windows XP and can't get the USB to boot (Ubuntu 16.04.4, LTS Desktop, 32 bit, 32 GB USB flash drive that I purchased from OSDisc. Com - they are proving absolutely no support )

I've done the following in BIOS Setup Utility, "boot" -
1.Made the Samsung Flash the first Hard drive with my system HD as second in "hard disk drives".
2. Changed the boot device priority to Hard drive first
It will still boot up XP.
I tried disabling the system HD and just use USB, boot stalled. When I took the USB out, the boot stalled.

The option for "USB boot" is enabled - only option is to disable.
"Removable devices" only recognizes "1st floppy drive"

I'm afraid I'm at the limit of my ability... Out of options Help??

  • You may need Lubuntu or other lightweight flavor, if an XP era system. Light weight flavors Lubuntu, xubuntu, Ubuntu mate, Budgie wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFlavors My old BIOS system booted from another hard drive entry when USB was correctly configured for BIOS boot. ubuntu.com/download & help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick
