Changing Ubuntu 17.10 Lock Screen Background

$ sudo update-alternatives --config gdm3.css
There are 2 choices for the alternative gdm3.css (providing /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gdm3.css).

Selection Path Priority Status
------------------------------------------------------------
* 0 /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gnome-shell.css 100 auto mode
1 /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gnome-shell.css 100 manual mode
2 /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/ubuntu.css 10 manual mode

Press <enter> to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number:



I am using the gnome css.
It works on the first sign in page



When I lock my PC or when it does that automatically after some time. I see the ubuntu theme

When I click on Log in as another user, I see the gnome theme.

System Information:



  • OS: Ubuntu 17.10 x86_64

  • Kernel: 4.13.0-37-generic

  • Shell: bash 4.4.12

  • Resolution: 1920x1080

  • DE: ubuntu:GNOME

  • WM: GNOME Shell

  • WM Theme:Arc-Dark

Please help me fix this.

  • Using Nautilus file manager you can browse to any picture and set it as wallpaper for login and lock screen (In Ubuntu 16.04 at least) using this script: askubuntu.com/questions/871312/…
