Ubuntu 16.04 ldap auth with mail attribute

I have a Xubuntu 16.04 LTS that i can login with LDAP (OpenLdap) credentials and i want to change the login attribute from uid to mail. I install libnss-ldapd , libpam-ldapd and use the file /etc/ldap.conf for most settings i have. Can't find a way to change the login attribute or add more attributes for login. Is there any ideas how to make it happen?
